At Great Hills Eye Care, we believe in annual retinal wellness screening using the newest technology: the Optomap retinal scanner. The Optomap was carefully designed to allow our optometrists to see all the structures of the inside of the eye in detail, without having to use the vision-blurring dilating drops! During the test you will place your eye against the Optomap retinal scanner and in less than one second it can capture a 200 degree view of the retina. This image is then viewed by the eye doctor in order to more easily detect early signs of eye disease.
In addition to seeing more of the retina, the Optomap also has the ability to see through the layers of the retina to uncover eye disease that would normally be hidden with the typical microscope exam. Having performed thousands of Optomap scans, our skilled Austin optometrists will carefully review your images in detail with you during your examination.
Dr. Provost, Dr. Carneglia, Dr. Patel, and Dr. Tillotson recommend this screening every year for all ages whether your eyes are healthy or already have evidence of eye disease. By performing your Optomap retinal scan on an annual basis, our optometrists will be better able to monitor your eye health and make sure your eyes are seeing clearly and comfortably for years to come.
